This has been a beautiful day—sunny
with only a few high, white clouds. Cordell, Hugo, and our granddaughter,
Janelle, met our friend, Jim Hauser at his house and went sailing. Jim has a
very nice sailboat and he graciously took them out on the Chesapeake Bay.
Janelle and Hugo both had an
opportunity to steer to boat.
However, on the return from the
mooring, there were problems with the motor on the dingy and the men had to row
it back to Jim’s dock at his house.
After leaving Jim’s house, the
crew met Sue at a shopping center. We all rode in one car to the Captain Salem
Avery House Museum which is located on the Chesapeake Bay at Shady Side Maryland.
During the War of 1812, the British Naval fleet passed this way. There are
exhibits explaining the functions of this property throughout the years.
Of course, there is a geocache
hidden there. Since it was a puzzle cache, we were required to tour the grounds
and read various signs to get the information we needed to discover the final
coordinates to enter into our GPS devices.
And so the four of us were searching and searching in many likely
places. It was Hugo who found the cache first!
When we returned to the shopping
center to get the car we had left there, we remembered that there was a very
interesting geocache there, too. And so, we encouraged Hugo and Janelle to look
for this difficult hide. Again, there was searching and searching until Hugo
saw a nano sized container attached by a magnet, very high up on a light pole.
Once Janelle saw it, she stepped out of her shoes and shimmied up that pole
very quickly. They signed the log and then she climbed back up the pole and put
it back.
We came back home and prepared a
taco dinner for tonight’s meal. It was noticed that this is the only food that
we can think of that you have to turn your head sideways to eat.
After dinner, Hugo, Janelle and I
played with our Pictionary game. We did not use the rules because we were using
the game to be a fun way for Hugo to discover English words and for Janelle and
me to discover French words. We were surprised to find so many words that are
the same in both languages. Sue was surprised at how many English words Hugo
knows. He and Janelle would make an awesome team in a regular game because they
seem to communicate the words very quickly with their drawings.
And so it has been another good
day for Hugo and us. Janelle is sleeping at our house tonight because we have
an exciting plan for tomorrow!!
